A copy of the inscription written on Perry Westbrook's "Biography of an Island" by Clyde Torrey to whom the book was dedicated. Given by Ernestine King (Mrs. Charles B. King). The inscription reads "This is a copy of the second edition. Sold this 6th day of July "7? (note: he passed away in 1974). To the King family in cottage at Atlantic, Me. Capt. Clyde Torrey who is retired from various careers both on and off the ocean. I am living in the house I was born in-in 1898 and waiting for time to run out. I am pleased to get the first book into hands that will cherish it." Ernestine writes: "He inscribed our copy of Perry Westbrook's book as you see. He spoke (sic - wrote) the King's English as beautifully as he wrote it." |
